Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

SUBJECT

Service Action: Program Control Unit (DME) 

SITUATION

The vehicle's NOx emissions may exceed the legally mandated limits.

By completing this Service Action, the DME is programmed with revised software to correct this situation.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves MY 05/06 E53 X5 3.0i vehicles with the M54 engine produced from 9/14/2004 to 9/21/2006.

Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

PROCEDURE

With ISTA/P, manually select only  the DME for programming.

This DME variant does not require coding and it is not necessary to add "Complete vehicle coding" to the measures plan.

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B 04 23 10  ).
