Starting with 9/2006 production, a new style fuel filler flap will be gradually introduced on all models. This special tool is required in the workshop to remove and refill fuel from the tank during repair work without damage to the flap. The tool has two different size ends. One for Gasoline (18mm), the other for Diesel (24mm).

Diesel application  (For information only) - The 24mm side is used to protect the filler flap (2) from being damaged during fuel removal and refilling. The Diesel filler flap is locked by a device that is designed to prevent incorrect fueling with Gasoline. In the workshop, the special tool with the 24mm end, unlocks the locking tabs (1) to release the filler flap (2).

Insert the correct end of the special tool into the filler neck (1) to the stop. The hose from the workshop portable defueling/refueling station can now be inserted into the tool. The tool is manufactured from an electrically conductive metal which prevents electrostatic charge buildup from occurring. Always follow all safety instructions provided by the manufacturer of the portable defueling/refueling station. Damaged or malfunctioning tools and equipment should never be used.
