SUBJECT

M57Y Engine: Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Replacement Procedures

SITUATION

After diagnosis due to a Service Engine Soon lamp being on, it was determined that the SCR catalyst needs to be replaced. The new SCR catalyst is an improved design that also requires programming of the DDE via the conversion path.

NOTE: This conversion is only required on 2009 MY vehicles.

PROCEDURE

Replace the SCR catalyst and the front pipe mixer. After replacement, perform a programming session with the current version of ISTA/P. Before completing the measures plan, select "Vehicle" from the top menu and select "Conversions". Next, select "Conversion, data compatibility catalytic converter". After selecting the conversion, continue with the measures plan and reprogram the vehicle.

NOTE: When the ISTA system message displays:

Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger.

Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section.

Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a main labor operation; if you are using a main labor code for another repair, use the plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the VIN and click on the "Search" button, enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.

If a control module fails to program correctly, or initialization is required, work through the Measures Plan and/or Final Report. Claim this additional work under the defect code listed in this bulletin, refer to the KSD2 for the labor operation codes and labor allowances.
