Check Control Message "Restraint System Faulty" Is Displayed 

SITUATION

Intermittently the check control message "Front Passenger Restraint System Faulty" is displayed in the Central Information Display. The following information is read from the vehicle:

1. Key Reader Vehicle Defects Details shows DTC: 930AB3.
2. ISTA fault code "930AB3-POL: indicator lamp for passenger airbag deactivation: short-circuit to plus"

   The fault condition is not present.

3. ISTA check control message ID 109

CAUSE

FZD (Operating Unit for Roof) software error causes the POL (Passenger Airbag Off Lamp) to intermittently malfunction.

PROCEDURE

DO NOT  replace any parts or perform any programming.

1. Perform a vehicle test using ISTA.
   NOTE: When the ISTA system message displays: "Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger". Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section.
2. If the POL functionality is incorrect, work through the corresponding test plan (including test plans related to low battery voltage).
3. If the POL has an intermittent malfunction and fault code 930AB3 is not currently present, clear the fault. This situation will be corrected with an ISTA/P software solution expected in March 2013.
   NOTE: Feedback from the field has indicated that in some cases, an electronic smart device (laptop or smart phone) was connected to the cigarette lighter and placed on the passenger front seat  (POL is on with no gong).

   Please explain this situation to the customer.

Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the "Search" button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.
