Run Flat Indicator/Tire Pressure Control

The vehicle has one of the following two control systems available for the message of a puncture:

Run Flat Indicator RPA: 

The system detects a loss of pressure by means of comparing the rotation speed of all four wheels during a journey. The system does not measure the actual tire pressure.

RDC tire pressure control: 

The system monitors the tire pressure in the four mounted tires. The system signals when the tire pressure drops significantly in one or more tires.

Function prerequisite: 

A reliable message about a puncture is only guaranteed if an initialization/a reset was performed for the system with correct tire pressure after the following situations.

• Every correction of the tire pressure
• Every tire or wheel change
• Every coupling or decoupling of a trailer

Initialization/reset can only be carried out when the tire pressure is OK. It must be ensured that there is no puncture.

Do not perform an initialization/reset when snow chains or compact wheel are used!

A puncture or tire pressure loss is indicated by:

• The warning light lights up yellow or red.
• A Check Control message is displayed.
• An acoustic signal sounds.

Checking puncture message: 

• Perform visual inspection of tires and check pressure of all tires.

The tire pressure table can be found on the door post with the driver's door open.

In case a Mobility system is present, the tire pressure can be measured and corrected by means of the provided compressor in an emergency.

• If there is no puncture and the tire pressure in all tires is correct, the system must be reset.

If a puncture is present, no further driving is possible with tires without emergency running properties.

With run-flat tires it is possible to continue the journey at speeds of up to 80 km/h/50 mph, refer to:

• TIRES WITH EMERGENCY RUNNING PROPERTIES 

The maximum possible remaining distance of a faulty, depressurized tire with emergency running properties is 80 km/50 miles with an average vehicle load.

Initialization Run Flat Indicator/reset tire pressure control: 

Depending on the vehicle equipment, the initialization/reset can be performed either by means of iDrive or via the drop arm.

The Owner's Handbook contains instructions and additional information.

Initialization via iDrive, newer vehicles: 

Select the following steps from the main menu:

1. "Vehicle information".
2. "Vehicle status".
3. "Confirm tire pressure".
4. Start the engine but do not drive off.
5. Start initialization with "Confirm tire pressure".
6. Drive off.

Initialization by using the drop arm: 

1. Start the engine but do not drive off.
2. Press button 1 up or down until the corresponding symbol and the message "RESET" appear.
3. Press button 2 to confirm the selection.

4. Press button 2 for 5 seconds until a checkmark after "RESET" or "RESETTING RESET" is displayed.
5. The initialization/reset is completed during the journey.
