NOTE: Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves 20 (F30 3 Series Sedan) produced from August 14, 2017 to August 30, 2017.

Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION

The Lane Change Warning is incorrectly activated when no car is present (phantom vehicle detected).

CAUSE

Software error in Lane Change Warning control unit interprets signal interference incorrectly on vehicles equipped with 17" and 18" Continental all-season tires.

CORRECTION

Reprogram the vehicle with ISTA 4.08.13 or more recent version

Remove the foil tape from behind the left rear wheel arch trim panel

Target I-level 17-11-520 or higher

PROCEDURE

Perform this Service Action before vehicle delivery or the next time the vehicle enters the shop.

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

  1. Remove the left rear wheel arch as described in REP 51 71 041.
  2. Remove the aluminum foil shown in picture above from the wheel arch liner.
  3. Re-install all removed components.
  4. Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.08.13 or more recent version.

    Target I-level 17-11-520 or higher

  5. If recommended by ISTA 4.08.13 after programming, perform another vehicle test and delete fault code entry.

Note that ISTA 4 will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply ( SI B04 23 10  ).
