Repair notes for replacing the engine
Engine damage due to missing motor oil.
Missing motor oil following repairs to the components in the oil circuit or replacement of the engine can lead to damage to the engine.
- Following repairs to components in the oil circuit or replacement of the engine, do not start the engine without observing the repair notes.
- It is imperative that you observe the repair notes following repairs to components in the oil circuit or replacement of the engine.
- For additional information, see: Observe the repair notes following repairs to components in the oil circuit or replacement of the engine
1 - Problem
Insufficient motor oil can cause damage to the engine after replacing the engine.
2 - Cause
An engine exchange is not prefilled with motor oil.
An engine exchange may still have an unknown residual amount of motor oil left in the oil pan from the engine assembly.
This residual amount of motor oil is not sufficient operate the engine.
An insufficient motor oil supply due to an oil level that is too low can cause damage to the engine immediately after starting it.
Measuring the oil level electronically is only possible if the engine is running and the motor oil is at operating temperature.
Therefore, the electronic measurement of the oil level may not be performed.
3 - Measures
After the engine has been exchanged, the motor oil must be drained completely.
Observe the sign in the engine compartment! Only fill with approved engine oil of the correct (Society of Automotive Engineers) viscosity grade.
Fill the engine with the correct amount of motor oil. See "Fluid Capacities" tab for selected vehicle.

Connect battery charger.
Damage to the starter.
Operating the starter for too long without interruption can damage it.
- Observe the maximum permissible uninterrupted starter operating period.
- Allow the starter to cool down before operating it again.
Before the first engine start, the engine only needs to be turned with the starter (without combustion) for a few seconds. The maximum permissible uninterrupted operating period must not be exceeded. Furthermore, the starter must cool down for a few seconds before it is operated again.
| Starter motor | |
| Maximum permissible uninterrupted starter operating period | 10 s |
| Minimal cooling phase immediately after operation | 20 s |
To ensure this, the fuse must be removed from the electric fuel pump.
Turning the engine with the starter (without combustion) ensures that the engine has a sufficient motor oil supply to start regularly afterwards.
Only turn the engine with the starter (without combustion) for the specified time.
Allow the starter to cool down for the time specified.
Perform the previous two steps another two times.
Then install the fuse of the electric fuel pump.
Delete the fault memory.
Start engine.
Bring engine up to operating temperature.
Measure the oil level electronically.
