41 00... Removing Carbon Components

Special tools required:

  1. General information:
WARNING: Observe all applicable SAFETY INFORMATION .
Draw off dust, vapor and gases!
    Use personal protective clothing/equipment.

Separate workbay by means of mobile partition walls or protective curtains.

Electrostatic charge may occur when working with carbon components. It is for this reason that the carbon chassis must be connected to ground before starting repair work.

Attach the earth cable 2 355 747 at a place on the carbon chassis not visible to the customer. Connect other end of grounding wire via connector to ground of building.

Regularly clean the working area with a vacuum cleaner and wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth.

  2. Grinding of carbon components

Exclusively use tools approved for use with explosion-proof vacuum cleaners to grind carbon-fibre parts.

Use the largest possible vacuum cleaner hose diameter for maximum suction force.

Carbon components are linked to each other by means of adhesive. This link can only be broken by grinding off the damaged carbon component in the area around the adhesive flange.

    Attention!

The use of INFRARED EMITTERS  is not permitted!

Using infrared emitters, even inboard carbon components can be damaged due to the very high temperatures.

Refer to the individual repair instructions for the position of the adhesive areas.

    1. 2.1. Application of the conical grinder:

The conical grinder is used for flat grinding applications.

Adjust grinding tool to grinding depth of approximately 1 mm. Grind off adhesive flange in several periods. The adhesive layer is reached when the color in the grinding area turns black. Finish grinding. It is crucial to avoid grinding through the adhesive.

    2. 2.2. Application of the pencil grinder:

The pencil grinder is used for punctual grinding or for making up separation cuts.

Adjust grinding tool at the front side to the desired dimension a. Dimension a depends on the thickness of the carbon component to be separated.

Remove component residuals after grinding off all adhered areas.

  3. Surging of carbon components

Carbon components can be separated by means of surging.

    Attention!

Surging may easily lead to damages of components in an area not visible.

    These damages cannot be repaired!

Use saw only if the saw blade is completely visible during surging (e.g. when cutting a new part).
