Automatic Temperature Control: Testing: Notes

To diagnose an air conditioner problem in the shortest time and with the least effort, it is essential to follow a service procedure. Time spent in conducting a system functional performance test and analyzing the defect in order to isolate it to a specific control function area will be repaid in reduced repair time. A recommended diagnosis procedure follows:

  1. Before a system malfunction can be diagnosed and corrected, an understanding of how the system operates under normal conditions is essential. System operation is described under DESCRIPTION, COMPONENTS AND OPERATION in this section.
  2. One of the most important parts of diagnosis is to determine exactly what the complaint is and if the complaint is actually a malfunction in the A/C system. If malfunction complaint is intermittent, it should be observed before diagnosis and repair are attempted. With these procedures observed, specific testing procedures should be followed.
