Overhaul - 350C: Description

The Turbo Hydra-Matic 350C transmission is a fully automatic unit consisting primarily of a 4-element torque converter and 2 planetary gear sets. Four multiple-disc clutches, 2 roller clutches and an intermediate overrun band provide the friction elements required to obtain the desired function of the 2 planetary gear sets.

A hydraulic system pressurized by a gear type pump provides the working pressure required to operate the friction elements and automatic controls. The torque converter clutch assembly consists of a 3-element torque converter with the addition of a converter clutch.

The converter clutch is splined to the turbine assembly, and when operated, applies against the converter cover, providing mechanical direct drive coupling of the engine to the transmission planetary gears. When the converter clutch is released, the assembly operates as a normal torque converter.

NOTE: For information on the torque converter clutch system used in the THM 350C transmission, see appropriate DIAGNOSIS article.
