Stator Opens

NOTE: The delta windings of 15SI, 17SI and 27SI series alternators cannot be checked for open circuits. If all other electrical checks are normal and alternator fails to supply rated output, windings are probably defective.

To check for open conditions of 10SI and 12SI stators, set ohmmeter on x1000 scale. Attach ohmmeter leads to any 2 stator leads. Check each combination of stator leads in succession. See Figure. If any ohmmeter reading is high (infinity), a winding is open. Replace stator assembly.
