Tailgate Ajar Indicator Test

  1. If indicator does not turn on when tailgate is open, go to next step. If indicator stays on with tailgate closed, turn ignition switch to RUN position and disconnect tailgate ajar switch. If indicator turns off, replace tailgate ajar switch. If indicator remains illuminated, check Dark Green wire for short to ground.
  2. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between Dark Green wire and ground. If battery voltage is measured, go to step 3). If zero volts is measured, check for poor connections at tailgate ajar indicator and IPC connection or for open in Dark Green wire. If connections and wire are okay, repair IPC.
  3. Backprobe between Dark Green wire and tailgate ajar switch connector terminal "B". If zero volts is measured, check for open in Black wire between tailgate ajar switch connector terminal "B" and ground. If battery voltage is measured, check for poor connection or open in Dark Green wire. If connection and wire are okay, replace tailgate ajar switch.
