Oil Indicator Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Chevrolet Caprice. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If indicator does not illuminate with ignition on and engine not running, disconnect Tan wire from fuel pump/oil pressure switch. Connect fused jumper wire from Tan wire to ground. Oil indicator should illuminate with ignition on.
  2. If indicator fails to illuminate, check for open circuit in Tan wire and/or loose connections at IPC. If wiring and connections are okay, replace IPC. If indicator illuminates, replace fuel pump/oil pressure switch.
  3. If indicator remains on when engine is running above idle speed, ensure oil pressure is correct. If oil pressure is correct, disconnect Tan wire at fuel pump/oil pressure switch. If indicator illuminates, check for grounded Tan wire between bulb and fuel pump/oil pressure switch. If indicator does not illuminate, replace fuel pump/oil pressure switch.
