Crankshaft Position Sensor 3X (3.1L VIN M)

The 3X crankshaft position signal is generated by a 2-wire, Permanent Magnet (PM) generator crankshaft position sensor which is mounted through the right (rear) side of engine block. See component "E" in Figure . Ignition module passes this signal on to the PCM. The 3X signal is used by the ignition control module to determine which ignition coil to fire. the 3X signal is used by the PCM to determine RPM, crankshaft position, injector timing and to compute ignition timing at engine speeds greater than 1200 RPM.
