Cruise Control System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Attempt to establish communication with the following modules:
    • Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).
    • Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

    If scan tool communicates with modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with modules, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.

  3. If scan tool does not display any DTCs beginning with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs beginning with "U", go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  4. Select EBCM DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK/TCS article.
  5. Select PCM DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If scan tool does not display any transaxle DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool displays any transaxle DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  6. Select PCM DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If scan tool displays any DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTIC article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, repair concern by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS  .
