Diagnostic System Check

  1. Install scan tool. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - BONNEVILLE & LESABRE article.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Turn headlight switch to ON position. Attempt to establish communication with Driver Door Module (DDM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with listed modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with listed modules, see TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - BONNEVILLE & LESABRE article.
    3. NOTE: Engine may start during the following step. Turn ignition switch to OFF position as soon as CRANK POWER MODE is observed.
  3. Using scan tool, access CLASS 2 POWER MODE in DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing IGNITION SWITCH POWER MODE parameter. If ignition switch parameter reading matches ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter reading does not match ignition switch position for all switch positions or if CLASS 2 POWER MODE parameter readings do not match ignition switch positions, see DTC B1422: DEVICE POWER MODING MALFUNCTION under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - BONNEVILLE & LESABRE article.
  4. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, see SYSTEM TESTS  . If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step.
  5. If scan tool displays DTCs U1161, U1162, U1163 or U1170, see appropriate DTC under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  . If scan tool does not display DTCs U1161, U1162, U1163 or U1170, go to next step.
  6. If scan tool displays any other DTCs beginning with "U", see TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - BONNEVILLE & LESABRE article. If scan tool does not display any other DTCs beginning with "U", go to next step.
  7. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, see appropriate DTC under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - BONNEVILLE & LESABRE article. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, go to next step.
  8. If scan tool displays DTC B1327 or B1328, see appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If scan tool does not display DTC B1327 or B1328, go to next step.
  9. If scan tool displays B0490, see appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS or MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING. If scan tool does not display B0490, go to next step.
  10. If scan tool displays B2757, B2762 or B2772, see appropriate POWER SEATS article. If scan tool does not display B2757, B2762 or B2772, go to next step.
  11. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begins with "P", see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begins with "P", see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table.
