Installation Procedure

  1. Install the outer tie rod (3) to the inner tie rod (1). Do not tighten the jam nut (2).

  2. Install the outer tie rod (1) to the steering knuckle (2).

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  3. Install the outer tie rod lock nut (3).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the outer tie rod lock nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft) plus an additional 180 degrees.

    IMPORTANT: Be sure the rack and pinion boot is not twisted or puckered during toe adjustment.
  4. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Lower vehicle.
  6. Adjust the toe alignment. Refer to FRONT TOE ADJUSTMENT in Wheel Alignment.
