Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the vehicle speed sensor. Refer to Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Replacement .
  3. Remove the right front tire and the wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. IMPORTANT: Carefully guide the right drive axle output shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the lip seal surface.
  5. Remove the right drive axle from the vehicle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.

  7. Remove the case extension bolts.

  9. Loosen the torque strut bracket to engine bolts as needed.
  10. Swing the bracket out of the way.

  12. Remove the case extension assembly and the seal.

  14. Remove the thrust bearing and the thrust bearing washer.
