Installation Procedure

  1. Position the steering gear (4) on the drivetrain and front suspension frame.

  2. Install the steering gear bolts (3), washers (2) and nuts (1).
    CAUTION: This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
    NOTE: Start all fasteners by hand before tightening.

    Install NEW bolts.

  3. Tighten the steering gear bolts (3) to:
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Tighten

    1. First Pass: 110 N.m (81 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: (150-165 degrees)
  4. Front Stabilizer Shaft» Install - Stabilizer Shaft Replacement
  5. Raise the rear of the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
  6. Exhaust Front Pipe» Install - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LCV)
  7. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Rear Support» Install [2x] - Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement
  8. Tighten the drivetrain and front suspension frame front bolts. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement
  9. Remove the adjustable stands from underneath the vehicle.
  10. Rear Transmission Mount Through Bolt» Install - Transmission Rear Mount Replacement
  11. Front Transmission Mount Through Bolt» Install - Transmission Front Mount Replacement
  12. Route the steering gear wiring harness in the position it was in before removal.
    NOTE: Wiring harness routing is critical. When installing, route the wiring harness in the exact same location it was moved from during the removal procedure.
  13. Tighten the steering gear wiring harness bracket bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  14. Connect the electrical connector(s) on the steering gear and connect the wiring harness clip to the steering gear housing.
  15. Steering Gear Heat Shield» Install - Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement 
  16. Front Lower Control Arm @ Steering Knuckle» Install [2x] - Lower Control Arm Replacement
  17. Front Stabilizer Shaft Link @ Front Stabilizer Shaft» Install [2x] - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
  18. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod @ Steering Knuckle» Install [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement 
  19. Engine Support Fixture» Remove - Engine Support Fixture
  20. Install the steering column dash inner seal and install the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
  21. Program the power steering control module. Refer to Control Module References
  22. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement
