WARNING: When performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling . Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs. WARNING: When replacing either a steering wheel or driver airbag, it is mandatory that both components are sourced from the same country. Parts from different countries are not interchangeable and may cause a malfunction of the air bag system causing personal injury. NOTE: The steering wheel and the driver airbag components are not interchangeable with parts from different countries. It is mandatory to verify when replacing either a steering wheel or driver airbag that both parts are sourced from the same country. Preliminary Procedures Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling Steering Wheel Airbag Replacement
1	Steering Wheel Bolt CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution . Procedure Remove and DISCARD the bolt. Clean the adjacent bolt threads. Ensure the NEW bolt has thread locking adhesive. If thread locking adhesive is NOT present, apply NEW locking adhesive to the bolt threads. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers Tighten 45 N.m (33 lb ft)
2	Steering Wheel Procedure Disconnect the electrical connectors. Install the steering wheel bolt until 2 to 3 threads are engaged. Wiggle the steering wheel until the wheel disengages completely. Steering Wheel Bolt - Remove Steering Wheel - Remove Transfer components as necessary. NOTE: The steering wheel and the driver airbag components are NOT interchangeable with parts from different countries. It is MANDATORY to verify when replacing either a steering wheel or driver airbag that both parts are sourced from the same country.

Steering Wheel Airbag Replacement

Steering Wheel Bolt

CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

Remove and DISCARD the bolt.
Clean the adjacent bolt threads.
Ensure the NEW bolt has thread locking adhesive. If thread locking adhesive is NOT present, apply NEW locking adhesive to the bolt threads. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

Tighten
45 N.m (33 lb ft)

Steering Wheel

Procedure

Disconnect the electrical connectors.
