Preliminary Procedures

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Buick) , and Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Chevrolet)
  3. Remove the instrument panel outer air outlet duct. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Duct Replacement (Buick) , and Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Duct Replacement (Chevrolet)
1 Airbag Instrument Panel Module

Procedure

  1. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Module Handling and Scrapping .
  2. Insert a wood straight edge, one per side behind all locking tabs, to simultaneously release the instrument panel airbag housing from the instrument panel chute without overextending the airbag locking tabs. Use a wood straight edge that is approximately 50.8 cm (20 in) long and 5 mm (0.20 in) thick with a rounded edge.
  3. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
