Tone-Up Notes: Notes
- IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT CAUTION: Procedures and specifications for idle speed adjustment must be followed exactly as outlined. See "Hot (Slow) Idle RPM" under Tune-Up .
- HOT IDLE ADJUSTING CAUTION: Vacuum release valve in neutral safety switch must not be disconnected while idle adjustment is being made. Disconnect and plug parking brake hose at vacuum cylinder when adjusting hot idle speed.
- BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT NOTE: Brake indicator red light on instrument panel is both a parking brake indicator and a brake system trouble indicator. On drum brake models, the light goes on when brake pedal travel is excessive. On disc brake models the light goes on when hydraulic fluid pressure is not equal between the front and rear systems. Unequal pressure could be caused by a leak or other malfunction. On both drum and disc brake models, the light goes out when pressure is removed from the brake pedal.
- HAZARD WARNING FLASHER CAUTION: If brake pedal is depressed while hazard flasher is operating, both front and rear lights will stop flashing and burn steadily until brake pedal is released. This is normal I operation, and should not be taken as an indication I that anything is wrong.
- 1968 ROUGH IDLE & BACKFIRE CORRECTION:
Rough idle or backfire upon hard acceleration followed by quick accelerator pedal release may be caused by Air Injection Reactor pump diverter valve malfunction. Check valve by pinching off vacuum line. If engine RPM drops 10 RPM or less, valve is good. If engine RPM drops 50-80 RPM, valve is faulty and must be replaced and idle reset.NOTE: 3/4" long bolts may be used to replace original 7/8" long bolts for easier installation. Install bolts with heads toward pump housing.NOTE: For other items affecting Tune-Up, see Diagnosis, Testing & Trouble Shooting at rear of book and appropriate carburetor story in CARBURET ION section.
