TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
TIP-IN HES., ENGINE STALL ON - COLD START ENG. STALL ON DECEL
Model(s): 1988 Cadillac Cimarrons
Bulletin No.: Cadillac T90-52
Date: 04/03/1990
SERVICE INFORMATION
This bulletin is being revised due to changes in the MEM-CAL calibration and part numbers on both 5-speed applications. Please discard bulletin T-89-17A, Group 6E.
Some 1988 Cimarrons may experience any of the following conditions: tip-in hesitation on acceleration, engine stall on cold start, or engine stall on deceleration.
To repair this condition a service MEM-CAL has been developed and is available from GMSPO. Refer to the chart below for the correct MEM-CAL application:
| Emission System | Trans | Service MEM-CAL Part Number | Service MEM-CAL I.D. * | Broadcast Code+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FED | AUTO | 16134468 | 4761 | ARDC |
| FED | MAN 5-SPEED | 16148227 | 8261 | ATZA |
| CAL | AUTO | 16134465 | 4741 | ARDA |
| CAL | MAN 5-SPEED | 16148228 | 8271 | ATZB |
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Replace the NMM-CAL.
- Restore the battery power and place the air conditioning controls in the off position.
- Start the engine, apply brake, and shift the transmission to "drive" for automatics or "neutral" for manuals. Do not load the power steering system.
- Allow the engine to run for six minutes. If coolant temperature does not reach 80 DEG C (176 DEG F) after six minutes, continue to run the engine until coolant temperature reaches 80 DEG C (176 DEG F).
This procedure will allow the ECM memory to be updated with the correct idle air control valve position. If the condition is still present after installing the MEM-CAL, refer to Section 6E3-B of the 1988 Service Information Manual.
- MEM-CAL I.D. can be read with a scan tool connected to the ALDL connector.
+ Broadcast Code can be seen through the access hole on the top side of the MEM-CAL. For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T0500 at .7 hour.
