Ignition Timing
NOTE:
Some engines are equipped with a socket for a magnetic probe timing meter, located 9.5° ATDC. Do not use this location for timing with a conventional timing light.
4.5L (VIN 5)
- Place transmission in Park. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn diagnostic display, A/C and all accessories off. Connect timing light to No. 1 spark plug. Connect tachometer.
- Jump pins A & B in ALDL connector located near the parking brake pedal just below the dash. "Set Timing" message should appear on the Driver Information Center (DIC). This indicates that the ECM is in set timing mode.
- Adjust ignition timing at specified RPM. Tighten distributor housing and recheck timing. Unplug jumper from ALDL connector.
