How To Use This Article

Ensure the following items have been checked before using this section:

• The on-car diagnostics are working.
• No trouble codes are stored, or only intermittent ones.
• Ensure that fuel control system is operating properly.
• Ensure that DFI SYSTEM CHECK does not locate problems.
• Ensure that a careful visual check found no obvious problems.

Verify the complaint and locate the correct "symptom" as described in the following text. Check the items indicated under that symptom. These procedures will normally lead to a component system on the vehicle. These are covered in component system charts, such as EGR (C7), EST (C4), TCC (C8), etc. Refer to the DFI SYS/COMPONENT TESTS article in this section.
