Retained Accessory Power (Rap)

The Retained Accessory Power (RAP) System provides power to operate several vehicle accessories after the engine has been running and the Ignition Switch has been turned to OFF or LOCK position, but before any door is opened.

Voltage is applied at all times to the coils of RAP Relay 1 and RAP Relay 2. When the Ignition is turned to RUN position, the Body Computer Module (BCM) senses that the Ignition is in RUN and grounds the Relay coils at BCM terminal 2A11. RAP Relay 1 and RAP Relay 2 coils are now energized and the contacts close. Voltage is now applied through RAP Relay 1 to the left and right Door Switch Assemblies and Fuse 16 from Circuit Breaker 21.

When the ignition is turned to OFF or LOCK position, the BCM will keep the Relays energized for ten minutes unless a door is opened. If a door is opened, the Door Ajar Switch closes and the BCM Door Ajar Input is grounded. The BCM will now disconnect the Relay coils from ground.
