System Operation

The PASS-Key(R) system is designed to prevent engine from starting if proper resistance is not sensed from Ignition Key. Of 15 resistance values available, only one will work with each PASS-Key(R) module.

The PASS-Key(R) system prevents engine from starting by controlling Starter Enable Relay and PCM Fuel Enable Output. See Figure . If PCM does not sense proper signal on cranking Fuel Enable input, it will not provide fuel to engine.

If wrong resistance value is sensed when ignition id turned "ON", PASS-Key(R) Module will not ground Starter Enable circuit and will not output Fuel Enable signal for approximately three minutes. This prevents engine from starting and discourages thief from trying key codes (resistance values) at random.

If correct resistance is sensed when ignition id turned "ON", PASS-Key(R) Module will ground Starter Enable circuit and output Fuel Enable signal. This will allow engine to start normally.
