DTC 25 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Fault: Notes
Toothed wheel generates a voltage pulse as it moves past sensor. EBTCM uses these pulses to determine wheel speed. Amount of voltage generated in each pulse depends on wheel speed and air gap between sensor and toothed wheel. ANTI-LOCK and TRACTION CONTROL warning indicators will turn on and DTC 25 will set if there is a short to voltage or ground in circuits No. 830 or 873, or a wheel speed sensor is malfunctioning.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Checks wheel speed sensor resistance.
- Checks for short to battery voltage in wheel speed sensor wires.
- Checks for short between wheel speed sensor wires.
- Checks for short to ground in wheel speed sensor input wire. Short to ground may be a "hard" short to ground or a resistive (partial) short. A short with resistance less than 2 megohms, though not a "hard" short, can still cause a DTC 25 to set.
- Checks if DTC resets during road test. If DTC resets, since steps 1) through 4) have validated that circuits and components are good, intermittent problems are suspected.
- Checks wiring and connectors for intermittents.
- Probable cause for DTC to reset is a defective wheel speed sensor. Replace sensor. If DTC 25 resets after sensor is replaced, EBTCM must be concluding there is a problem present in wheel speed sensor circuit when no problem exists. Replace EBTCM.
