DTC 27 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Continuity Fault: Notes

Toothed wheel generates a voltage pulse as it moves past sensor. EBTCM uses these pulses to determine wheel speed. Amount of voltage generated in each pulse depends on wheel speed and air gap between sensor and toothed wheel. ANTI-LOCK and TRACTION CONTROL warning indicators will turn on and DTC 27 will set if there is a short to voltage or an open in circuits No. 830 or 873, or a wheel speed sensor is malfunctioning.

1. Checks wheel speed sensor resistance.
2. Checks for short to battery voltage in wheel speed sensor wires.
3. Checks for open in wheel speed sensor wires.
4. Manipulates wiring and connectors, trying to induce an intermittent malfunction not currently present.
5. Checks if DTC resets after ignition cycle. If DTC 27 resets, since steps 1) through 4) have validated that circuits and components are good, wheel speed sensor may be defective.
6. Checks if DTC 25 sets during road test.
7. DTC 27 sets when vehicle is motionless. DTC 25 sets when a problem is present in wheel speed sensor circuit with vehicle in motion. If problems are still present, DTC 25 would set during road test, not DTC 27. If DTC 25 sets, go to DTC 25.
8. Wheel speed sensor may be causing an intermittent fault. If DTC 27 resets after sensor replacement, EBTCM must be concluding there is a problem present in wheel speed sensor circuit when no problem exists. Replace EBTCM.
