DTC 65 Adjuster Assembly Fault: Notes

Adjuster assembly circuit provides power and ground to adjuster assembly during TCS operation to help control engine torque.

TRACTION CONTROL warning indicator will turn on and DTC 65 will set if circuits No. 1685 or 1686 are shorted to ground, shorted to battery voltage, shorted to each other or both open at same time. TCS will be disabled for remainder of ignition cycle.

1. Checks adjuster assembly motor winding resistance.
2. Checks for poor power feed in circuit No. 1440.
3. Checks for an open in circuits No. 1685A and/or 1685B.
4. Checks for an open in circuits No. 1686A and/or 1686B.
5. Checks for short between circuits No. 1685 and 1686.
6. Checks for short to battery voltage in circuits No. 1685A and/or 1685B.
7. Repeats step 1) to ensure motor is in "home" position and to ensure correct resistance value can be measured.
8. Sets throttle to a position which enables EBTCM to monitor adjuster assembly circuits, checking for a DTC 65 reset. If DTC resets, problem exists which requires further diagnosis.
9. Determines if wiring or adjuster assembly is at fault for problems found in step 7).
10. Checks for short to battery voltage in circuits No. 1686B and/or 1686C.
11. Checks for short to ground in circuits No. 1685B and/or 1685C.
12. Checks for short to ground in circuits No. 1686B and/or 1686C.
13. Checks for continued DTC setting after wiring and adjuster assembly inspections.
14. Sets throttle to a position which enables EBTCM to monitor adjuster assembly circuits, checking for a DTC 65 reset. If DTC resets, EBTCM is probably malfunctioning.
15. Checks for shorts to battery voltage or ground that are EBTCM switched. If short is still present, short is probably in circuits other than those from EBTCM. EBTCM provides power or ground on many circuits only when it is powered up and operational. If test does not indicate a short to voltage or ground and you have reached step 13) for the second time after performing checks for EBTCM switched malfunctions, EBTCM is probably malfunctioning for DTC reset. Replace EBTCM. If test indicates a short to voltage or ground, turn ignition off and disconnect breakout box from EBTCM. Leave breakout box connected to EBTCM wiring harness. Repeat step that indicated the short (turning ignition on if step requested it). If short is now not present, short is probably to a circuit from EBTCM when EBTCM is operating. Inspect wiring harness and connectors to determine location of problem. Repair wiring as necessary. If short is still present, short is probably in circuits other than those from EBTCM.
