Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Diagnostic Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Install scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Attempt to establish communication with RKE system. If scan tool communicates with RKE system, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with RKE system, go to step 3).
  2. On scan tool, select display RKE DTC function. Check for RKE DTCs. If no DTCs are stored, go to step 4). If DTCs are displayed, see appropriate DTC in BODY CONTROL MODULE article.
  3. Attempt to establish communication with other systems connected to same serial data line (BCM, Radio, etc.). If scan tool communicates with other systems, go to step 5). If scan tool does not communicate with other systems, see BODY CONTROL MODULE article. 4) Operate transmitter through all button and switch positions. If transmitter functions properly, system is okay. If transmitter does not function properly, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER DIAGNOSIS .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect remote control door lock receiver Natural, 4-pin connector. Connect test light between ground and remote control door lock receiver harness connector terminal "A" (Red wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step 9).
  5. Connect test light between battery voltage and remote control door lock receiver harness connector terminal "C" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step 11).
  6. Check for continuity between RKE remote control door lock receiver harness connector terminal "B" (Brown/White wire) and BCM connector C1 terminal B9 (Brown/White wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step 10).
  7. Replace remote control door lock receiver. Reprogram all RKE transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING - PROCEDURES. Go to step 12),
  8. Repair open circuit in Red wire between fuse block and remote control door lock receiver. Go to step 12). 10) Repair open circuit in Brown/White wire between remote control door lock receiver and BCM. Go to next step.
  9. Repair open circuit in Black wire between remote control door lock receiver and ground.
  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Install or connect any components or connectors that were removed or disconnected. Clear all DTCs. Operate transmitter through all button and switch positions. If transmitter functions properly, system okay. If transmitter does not function properly, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER DIAGNOSIS .
