Security Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. Connect Tech 2 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) and select BODY CONTROL MODULE. Select MISCELLANEOUS TEST from output control menu, then select SECURITY TELLTALE. While observing security indicator light, press ON key on scan tool. If security indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If security indicator light does not illuminate, go to step 3).
  2. Check for poor connections at Body Control Module (BCM). If a problem was found, repair connections as necessary and go to SYSTEM CHECK. If a problem was not found, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, cycle key ON and OFF. If status changes when cycling key ON and OFF, go to next step. If status does not change when cycling key ON and OFF, go to step 5).
  4. Check all power and ground circuits to BCM. If circuits are good and no poor connections were found, replace BCM and go to SYSTEM CHECK.
  5. Disconnect Brown, 32-pin BCM connector C2. See Figure . Disconnect connector form gauge cluster. Using DVOM, measure resistance in Brown/Blue wire between BCM connector C2, terminal C06 and gauge cluster connector terminal No. 23. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Blue wire and go to SYSTEM CHECK.
  6. Inspect security indicator bulb and gauge cluster printed circuit. Repair as necessary and go to SYSTEM CHECK.
