Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Always disable the SIR system when servicing the SIR components, or the SIR wiring. Failure to follow the disabling procedures could result in possible deployment, personal injury, or otherwise unneeded SIR system repairs
  1. Disable SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement

  3. Remove the upper steering column cover screw caps
  4. Remove the steering column cover screws
  5. Remove the steering column cover.
  6. Remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle 
  7. Remove the rubber protective cover from the ignition lock cylinder

  8. Remove the lower steering column cover screws
  9. Remove the lower steering column cover

  10. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector
  11. Remove the SIR coil
