Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If scan tool communicates with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), go to next step. If scan tool will not communicate with IPC, go to step 3).
  2. Select IPC DTC function on scan tool display. If any DTCs are stored, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and repair procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  . If no DTCs are stored, go to appropriate system test.
  3. Attempt to establish communications with other control modules (BCM, PCM, RFA, etc.). If scan tool communicates with other modules, but not with IPC, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with any module, locate and repair Class 2 serial data line. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a DVOM to ground and probe IPC fuse in underhood junction block for voltage. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . If reading is 10.5-15.5 volts, go to next step. If reading is not 10.5-15.5 volts, go to step 7).
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect IPC electrical connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a DVOM to ground and probe each IPC connector power feed terminal for voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If reading are 10.5-15.5 volts, go to next step. If readings are not 10.5-15.5 volts, go to step 9).
  6. With ignition switch in ON position, connect test light to battery voltage and probe each IPC connector ground circuit. If test light comes on, go to step 8). If test light does not come on, go to step 10).
  7. Repair open in battery feed to IPC fuse in underhood junction block. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in circuits connected to fuse. Go to step 1).
  8. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 11).
  9. Locate and repair open in IPC power feed circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Go to step 11).
  10. Locate and repair open in IPC ground circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Go to next step.
  11. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect all connectors. Clear all DTCs using scan tool. If DTCs return, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and repair procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  .
