Security Indicator Inoperative.

  1. If sent here from PASS-Key(R) III SYSTEM CHECK, go to next step. If PASS-Key(R) III SYSTEM CHECK has not been performed, go to PASS-Key(R) III SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Attempt to communicate with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Left Front Door Module (LFDM) and Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) Module in serial data line. If communication is possible with all other modules, go to next step. If no communication is possible, go to step  10.
  3. Using scan tool, select IPC output functions and command SECURITY indicator on and off. If indicator operates properly, go to next step. If indicator does not operate, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  4. Check operation of power lock switches. If power locks operate properly, go to next step. If power locks do not operate properly, repair power door lock system as necessary. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS article.
  5. Close all doors. Turn ignition on. If DOOR AJAR message is displayed, repair door ajar circuit as necessary. See appropriate wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. If DOOR AJAR message is not displayed, go to next step.
  6. Open driver's door. If DOOR AJAR message is displayed, go to next step. If DOOR AJAR message is not displayed, door ajar circuit as necessary. See appropriate wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  7. Close driver's door. Open passenger door. If DOOR AJAR message is displayed, go to next step. If DOOR AJAR message is not displayed, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  8. Turn ignition on. If SECURITY light is on or flashing, go to PASS-Key(R) III SYSTEM CHECK . If light is off, go to next step.
  9. Check following circuits for intermittent malfunction:
    • Driver door ajar switch.
    • Passenger door ajar switch.
    • Trunk tamper switch.
    • Power lock switches.
    • Door lock cylinder switches.
    • Hood ajar switch (export only)
    • Communications between IPC, LFDM and VTD. Repair as necessary. If no problem was found, system is okay. If problem was found and repaired, go to step  11.
  10. For IPC communication problem, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article and see appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTOR article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. For VTD communication problem, go to PASS-Key(R) III SYSTEM CHECK  and see appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTOR article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. For LFDM communication problem, see appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTOR article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  11. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all connectors. Go to PASS-Key(R) III SYSTEM CHECK .
