Content Theft Deterrent System Check

  1. Open left front door and lower window. Remove key from ignition switch and close left front door. Using remote keyless entry transmitter, lock all doors. After locking all doors, SECURITY indicator light should illuminate for about 30 seconds. After about 30 seconds, SECURITY indicator light should go out. If SECURITY indicator light operates as indicated, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator light does not illuminate, see TEST 2: SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT INOPERATIVE  under SYMPTOM TESTS. If SECURITY indicator light is always illuminated, see TEST 3: SECURITY INDICATOR ALWAYS ON OR FLASHING  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  2. Unlock left front door using inside door lock switch. Open door. If low beam headlights, exterior lights and horn activates once per second (system activates) when door is opened, go to next step. If low beam headlights, exterior lights and horn do not activate once per second (system does not activate) when door is opened, see TEST 4: THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM INOPERATIVE  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  3. Using remote keyless entry transmitter, unlock doors. If system disarms, go to next step. If system does not disarm, repair remote keyless entry system as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS article.
  4. Open left front door. Lock doors using inside door lock switch and close door. Wait about 30 seconds. Unlock door using left front inside door lock switch and open door. Repeat test on right door. If system activates using either door, go to next step. If system does not activate using either door, see TEST 5: THEFT DETERRENT NOT ARMED WHEN LOCKED FROM SWITCH  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  5. Open left front door. Insert key in ignition switch and turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Close door. Using remote keyless entry transmitter, lock all doors. Wait about 30 seconds. Reach through open window and move ignition switch out of LOCK position. If system activates, go to next step. If system does not activate, see TEST 4: THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM INOPERATIVE  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  6. Remove key from ignition switch and insert it into left door lock cylinder. Turn key to unlock position (counterclockwise). If system disarms, go to next step. If system does not disarm, see TEST 6: THEFT DETERRENT ARMED WHEN UNLOCKED FROM SWITCH  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  7. Open left front door. Insert key in ignition switch and turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Close door. Using remote keyless entry transmitter, lock all doors. Wait about 30 seconds. Remove V4 fuse (80-amp) from power distribution fuse block. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Wait about 5 seconds and reconnect V4 fuse (80-amp). If system is activated, go to next step. If system is not activated, see TEST 4: THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM INOPERATIVE  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  8. Open trunk. Depress trunk courtesy light switch. While holding light switch, lock all doors using remote keyless entry transmitter. Wait about 30 seconds and release switch. If system activates, system is okay. If system does not activate, see TEST 4: THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM INOPERATIVE  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
