DTC B3109: Remote Transmitter Low Battery Detection: Testing

  1. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is locate below left side of instrument panel, on hood release bracket. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs function in Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) menu. If scan tool indicates DTC B3109 is current, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate DTC B3109 is current, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. Using scan tool, observe Key Fob Low Voltage parameters for each remote transmitter in Key FOB information data list to identify programmed remote transmitter(s) which stored DTC. Replace battery of indicated remote transmitter(s). After repair, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate remote transmitter(s) which batteries were replaced, 3 consecutive times. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, system is operating correctly at this time.
  5. Inspect remote transmitter battery for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to next step. If poor connections are found, repair remote transmitter battery connections as necessary. System should be operating correctly at this time.
  6. Replace remote transmitter. Ensure replacement remote transmitter is correct model for vehicle. Program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. After programming, go to next step.
  7. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate replacement remote transmitter 3 consecutive times. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, system is operating correctly at this time.
    8. NOTE: When replacing RCDLR, remote transmitters will need to be reprogrammed.
  8. Replace RCDLR. Program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. System should be operating correctly at this time.
