Shift Interlock Actuator: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Block the vehicle wheels.
  2. Put the shift lever into NEUTRAL.
  3. NOTE: To prevent component damage, DO NOT use metal tools to remove the trim. Do not use the convenience door opening as a leverage point.
  4. Remove the center console trim. See Figure .
  5. Insert your fingers (if necessary, use a flat plastic tool) between the trim and the PRNDL at the RH rear corner of the chrome trim (2). See Figure . Gently lift up the trim plate in order to disengage the RH rear corner retainer (3).
  6. Use the same method at the LH rear corner and the 2 front corners of the chrome trim in order to disengage the remaining retainers. Lift the center console trim assembly upward from the rear edge and pull the assembly rearward. Disconnect the electrical connectors as necessary.
  7. Remove anti-theft plate (if equipped). See Fig 1 .
  8. Disconnect the shift interlock actuator harness connector. See Fig 2 .
  9. Disengage the locking tab on the park lock cable and lift the cable out of the slot in the shifter. Unhook the park lock cable from the park lock cam on the shifter. See Figure and Fig 2 .
  10. Remove hush panel trim and knee bolster. Lower steering column.
  11. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  12. Depress the locking tab (1) on the cable and pull the cable out of the back of the ignition switch. See Fig 3 . The locking tab is located on the bottom of the ignition switch facing in the 6 o'clock position.
