Draining Cooling System

WARNING: With a pressurized cooling system, coolant temperature in radiator can be considerably higher than boiling point of the solution at atmospheric pressure. Removal of surge tank cap, while cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes solution to boil instantaneously with explosive force. This will cause solution to spew out over engine, fenders, and person removing cap. Serious bodily injury may result.

Park vehicle on a level surface. Remove surge tank cap. Raise and support vehicle. Remove push-in retainers securing air deflector to vehicle. Remove air deflector. Place a drain pan under lower radiator hose connection at bottom of radiator. Slide hose clamp back on hose. Slowly remove lower radiator hose and drain coolant into drain pan. To refill system, see COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING  .
