Removal (Primary)

WARNING: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
NOTE: Fuel Tank Sender Wrench (J-45747) is required for this procedure. See Figure .
  1. The fuel pump/sender assembly (primary) attaches to the upper right side of fuel tank. Remove fuel tank hoses. See FUEL HOSES/PIPES - FILTER TO TANK  . Disconnect electrical connector from fuel pump/sender assembly.
  2. Do not allow tool to come in contact with fuel pipes while unlocking cam lock ring. Rotate cam lock ring counterclockwise using Fuel Tank Sender Wrench. See Figure . Remove cam lock ring from fuel tank.
  3. The fuel pump/sender assembly is horizontal in installed position, but pivots vertically for removal. Carefully lift fuel pump/sender assembly from the fuel tank only enough to access transfer tube. See Figure .
  4. Pull locking mechanism on transfer tube away from assembly. Remove transfer tube from assembly. Remove fuel pump/sender assembly from fuel tank. See Figure . Remove fuel pump/sender assembly seal from assembly and discard.
