Removal (Primary)
WARNING:
Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
NOTE:
Fuel Tank Sender Wrench (J-45747) is required for this procedure. See Figure
.
- The fuel pump/sender assembly (primary) attaches to the upper right side of fuel tank. Remove fuel tank hoses. See FUEL HOSES/PIPES - FILTER TO TANK . Disconnect electrical connector from fuel pump/sender assembly.
- Do not allow tool to come in contact with fuel pipes while unlocking cam lock ring. Rotate cam lock ring counterclockwise using Fuel Tank Sender Wrench. See Figure . Remove cam lock ring from fuel tank.
- The fuel pump/sender assembly is horizontal in installed position, but pivots vertically for removal. Carefully lift fuel pump/sender assembly from the fuel tank only enough to access transfer tube. See Figure .
- Pull locking mechanism on transfer tube away from assembly. Remove transfer tube from assembly. Remove fuel pump/sender assembly from fuel tank. See Figure . Remove fuel pump/sender assembly seal from assembly and discard.
