Fuel System Pressure Release

NOTE: Fuel Pressure Gauge (J-34730-1A) and Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter (J-42242) are required to perform this procedure. See Figure and Figure .

Clean fuel pipe connections, hose connections, and areas surrounding the connections before performing any disconnections in order to avoid possible contamination in the system.

  1. Turn ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect battery negative cable in order to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine.
  3. Loosen fuel filler cap and relieve fuel tank vapor pressure.
  4. Remove cap on fuel pressure service connection. Connect Fuel Pressure Gauge and Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter to fuel pressure service connection. See Fig 1 . Wrap a shop towel around fitting while connecting the gauge to avoid spillage.
  5. Place bleed hose of Fuel Pressure Gauge into an approved gasoline container.
  6. Open bleed valve on Fuel Pressure Gauge and bleed the fuel system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing.
  7. Place a shop towel under fuel pressure service connection to catch any remaining fuel spillage.
  8. Remove both Fuel Pressure Gauge and Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter from fuel pressure service connection.
  9. Drain any fuel remaining in Fuel Pressure Gauge into an approved gasoline container.
  10. Install cap on fuel pressure service connection.
