Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Cadillac CTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the rear coil spring and the lower control arm to jack. Raise the jack until lower control arm and rear coil spring is in position in the frame.
NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the lower control arm to frame mounting bolt and nut. See Figure. Tighten the nut (1) to 150 N.m (111 lb ft).
  3. Install the lower control arm to knuckle mounting bolt. See Figure. Tighten the bolt to 175 N.m (129 lb ft).
  4. Install the lower shock mounting bolt. See Figure. Tighten the bolt to 150 N.m (111 lb ft).
  5. Install a new rear wheel drive shaft nut. See Figure. Tighten the nut to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).
  6. Connect the stabilizer shaft link to the lower control arm. Install the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut. See Figure. Tighten the nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  7. Lower the jack. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in WHEEL & TIRE SYSTEM.
  8. Lower the vehicle. Check the wheel alignment. For 2003, refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT in SPECIFICATIONS . For 2004, refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT in SPECIFICATIONS .
