Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Cadillac CTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the upper control arm to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the upper ball joint to the knuckle.
NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  3. Install the upper ball joint to the knuckle retaining nut. See Figure. Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft) plus and additional 210 degree turn.
  4. Install the upper control arm to the frame mounting bolts. See Figure. Tighten the bolts to 175 N.m (129 lb ft).
  5. Install the brake rotor. For 2003, refer to BRAKE ROTORS . For 2004, refer to BRAKE ROTOR REPLACEMENT - REAR .
  6. Install the shock absorber. Refer to SHOCK ABSORBER REPLACEMENT .
