Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2004 GMC Yukon XL, 2004 GMC Yukon, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions  before disabling the SIR system.
  1. Turn the steering wheel until the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition.
  4. IMPORTANT: With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  5. Remove the SIR fuse from the fuse block.

  7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (1) from the steering wheel module yellow 4-way connector (2) located left of the steering column near the knee bolster.
  8. Disconnect the steering wheel module yellow 4-way connector (2).

  10. Remove the CPA from the I/P module yellow 4-way connector (1) located behind the I/P support.
  11. Disconnect the I/P module yellow 4-way connector (1).

  13. Remove the CPA from the RF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1) located under the passenger seat.
  14. Disconnect the RF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1).
  15. Remove the CPA from the LF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1) located under the driver seat.
  16. Disconnect the LF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1).
