Removal Procedure

- The seat cushion frame
- The seat recliner, if equipped
- The seat adjuster
- The seat back frame
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7 or SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 9 .
- Move the seat to the full forward position.
- Remove the seat back trim panel (2) from seat (1). Refer to Seat Back Trim Replacement - Front in Seats.
- Remove the seat back cover J channels (1).
- Remove the foam (1) that covers the side air bag fasteners (2).
- Remove only the top and the bottom fasteners (1) from the side impact inflator module.
- Remove the side impact inflator module (1) from the seat (2).
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (4) from the electrical connector (5) on the side impact inflator module.
- Disconnect the electrical connector (5) from side impact inflator module (1).
CAUTION:
Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:

IMPORTANT:
Do not remove the center fastener from side impact module inflator. If center fastener is removed this could cause the side air bag to deploy improperly, or unnecessary air bag system repairs.
