Installation Procedure

  1. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft to the steering column.
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft to the steering column bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).

  5. Install the steering column.
  6. Install the steering column nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  7. Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
  8. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  9. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  10. Raise the vehicle.

  12. Install the center intermediate steering shaft to the upper intermediate steering shaft.
  13. Install the center intermediate steering shaft to upper intermediate steering shaft bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 30 N.m (23 lb ft).

  14. Lower the vehicle.

  16. Unlock the steering column by removing the J 42640  from the steering column lower trim cover access hole.
  17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
