Circuit/System Testing
NOTE: If DTC C0292 is set diagnose it before performing this diagnostic.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the steering wheel position sensor (SWPS) connector.
- Ignition OFF, Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the 5-volt reference circuit of the SWPS and the signal A circuit of the SWPS. Ignition ON, with the scan tool, verify signal A parameter is 4.8-5.2 volts.
- If over 5.2 volts, test signal A circuit for short to voltage. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- If under 4.8 volts, test signal A circuit for open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- Ignition OFF, Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the 5-volt reference circuit of the SWPS and the signal B circuit of the SWPS. Ignition ON, with the scan tool, verify signal B parameter is 4.8-5.2 volts.
- If over 5.2 volts, test signal B circuit for short to voltage. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- If under 4.8 volts, test signal B circuit for open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- Ignition OFF, connect a test lamp between the battery positive and low reference circuit. Verify that the test lamp illuminates.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the low reference circuit for open or high resistance. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- If all circuits test normal replace the SWPS.
