Circuit/System Testing

NOTE: If DTC C0292 is set diagnose it before performing this diagnostic.

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the steering wheel position sensor (SWPS) connector.
  2. Ignition OFF, Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the 5-volt reference circuit of the SWPS and the signal A circuit of the SWPS. Ignition ON, with the scan tool, verify signal A parameter is 4.8-5.2 volts.
    • If over 5.2 volts, test signal A circuit for short to voltage. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
    • If under 4.8 volts, test signal A circuit for open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  3. Ignition OFF, Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the 5-volt reference circuit of the SWPS and the signal B circuit of the SWPS. Ignition ON, with the scan tool, verify signal B parameter is 4.8-5.2 volts.
    • If over 5.2 volts, test signal B circuit for short to voltage. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
    • If under 4.8 volts, test signal B circuit for open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  4. Ignition OFF, connect a test lamp between the battery positive and low reference circuit. Verify that the test lamp illuminates.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the low reference circuit for open or high resistance. If the circuits tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  5. If all circuits test normal replace the SWPS.
