Installation Procedure

    IMPORTANT: The upper intermediate shaft to lower intermediate shaft pinch nut is held by a keeper and not to be tightened. To obtain proper torque, tighten at the pinch bolt.
  1. Position the upper end of the lower intermediate shaft into the upper shaft.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  3. Install the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt and nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  4. Position the intermediate shaft to the steering gear.

    If you are reinstalling the same shaft, align the marks made during the removal procedure.

  5. Install the intermediate shaft to steering gear pinch bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the steering gear pinch bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  7. Remove the J 42640  from the steering column lower access hole.
