Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (LF3) .
  3. Remove the turbocharger wastegate actuator vacuum tank. Refer to Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Tank Replacement (LF3) .
  4. Remove the front three-way catalytic converter. Refer to Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (Front LF3)Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (Rear LF3) .
  5. Remove the front turbocharger heat shield. Refer to Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement (Front)Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement (Rear) .

  7. Remove the fastener (2) from the starter heat shield.

  9. Detach the starter heat shield retaining clip (2) from the starter (1).

  11. Remove the battery positive cable conduit bracket fastener (1) from the starter solenoid (2).
  12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  14. Remove the starter mounting fasteners (1) and rotate the starter to access the starter connections.

  16. Remove the battery positive cable connector (3).
  17. Remove the battery positive cable fastener (2) and remove the battery positive cable terminal (1), from the starter solenoid.
  18. Remove the starter (4) from the vehicle.
