Removal Procedure
- Instrument Panel Knee Bolster - Remove - Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement (Chevrolet / GMC)Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement (Cadillac)
- Steering Column Shroud - Remove - Steering Column Shroud Replacement (RPO N37) Steering Column Shroud Replacement (RPO N38) Steering Column Shroud Replacement (RPO N33)
- Position the steering column in the uppermost tilted position.
- WARNING:
The tilt spring and the spring guide are under pressure. The tilt spring and the spring guide may become a projectile. Secure the spring with locking pliers during removal. Secure the spring with locking pliers during installation. Bodily injury may result during removal and installation of the tilt spring and the spring guide. Always use caution during removal and installation of the tilt spring and the spring guide.
Remove the tilt spring (1) from the steering column using the following procedure:
- Pry the tilt spring (1) until a bulge occurs and most of the tension is removed.
- Secure the tilt spring (1) with locking pliers.
- Continue prying until the tilt spring (1) disengages from the posts on the steering column (2) and the steering column tilt head (3).
Remove the spring guide (1) from the tilt spring (2).
